B/w publicity photo of an older Troup from the shoulders up in a striped shirt, signed "Best wishes"
Photograph signed "Best wishes/Bobby Troup". B/w, 7¾x9¾ overall, 7¼x9¼ image, one surface. Troup (1918-1999, born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania) was probably best known for writing the hit Route 66, which became a hit for Nat King Cole in the 1940s. A Marine captain during World War II, he was the first white officer to be given command of an all-black unit in Jackson, North Carolina; he improved conditions for his men in what was then the pre-Civil Rights South. Troup was mainly a composer, songwriter and pianist. He released his own albums in the 1950s, but none of these was quite as successful as Route 66, which by then had become a standard. Troup also had numerous movie and TV appearances between 1950 and 1985, including a role as Dr. Joe Early on Emergency! (1972-1979). Lightly toned and bowed. Errors on negative were reproduced in photo. Otherwise in fine condition.
