Roses Are Red peaked at No. 1 on July 15, 1962 and spent four weeks at
the top of the charts. It was knocked off by Neil Sedaka's Breaking Up Is
Hard to Do. Although his sentimental ballads were more similar in style to
singers of earlier decades, Vinton, born Stanley Robert Vinton in 1935,
was a big hit with young listeners in the 1960s. He scored five big hits
between 1962 and 1964: Roses Are Red, Blue on Blue, Blue
Velvet, There, I've Said It Again and Mr. Lonely. Unlike
many of his rivals, he more than survived the British invasion, with further
big hits like I Love How You Love Me (1968). Vinton hosted his own TV
musical variety show (1975-1978) and remains ever popular on the nightclub
circuit and "oldies" radio. Lightly toned, soiled, creased and bowed. Light
impressions from album. Missing top right corner. Light tears in left edge.
Pinhole in top left corner. Lightly worn edges. Lightly rounded, creased and
worn corners. Otherwise in fine condition.
