Check No. 2388, drawn on the account of J F F Company, Inc. at First Florida Bank, Madeira Beach, payable to Charles Sweeney for $210. Signed on front: "Richard G. Kernon". On August 9, 1945, 25-year-old Major Charles W. Sweeney (1919-2004) was the pilot of Bock's Car, the B-29 bomber that dropped the Fat Man atomic bomb on Nagasaki, Japan. The bombing, which came just three days after the Enola Gay, piloted by Sweeney's close friend, Colonel Paul W. Tibbets, Jr., dropped the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan, hastened the end of WWII. Japan surrendered August 15, 1945, V-J Day. Brigadier General Sweeney retired from the military in 1979. Lightly creased with folds, vertical fold at the "G" of Kernon's signature. Bank stamps on verso, not at signature. Lightly soiled on front. Fine condition.
