The pilot of Bockscar draws his plane, adding his signature
Original Art Signed: "B-29 'Bock's Car'/Charles W. Sweeney/Commander
Nagasaki/9 August '45", 10½x6¾ white board. The plane measures four
inches in length. Major Charles W. Sweeney (1919-2004) was the pilot of
Bock's Car, the B-29 bomber that dropped the Fat Man atomic
bomb on Nagasaki, Japan. The bombing, which came just three days after the
Enola Gay, piloted by Sweeney's close friend, Colonel Paul W. Tibbets,
Jr., dropped the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima, Japan, hastened the end of
WWII. Japan surrendered August 15, 1945, V-J Day. Brigadier General Sweeney
retired from the military in 1979. Fine condition.
