RKO Radio pictures employment contract signed by actor Bonita Granville in 1941. Also signed by Bonita's mother, actor Rosina Granville, as her guardian.
Contract signed "Bonita G. Granville" as artist's true name in black ink, "Bonita Granville" as artist's professional name in black ink, "Bonita Granville" on questionnaire in blue ink and "Rosina Granville" as guardian of Bonita Granville in black ink. Lead and red pencil and blue ink marks in unknown hand. Also signed by an assistant secretary of RKO Radio Pictures, Inc. in blue ink. 48 pages including cover. 8½x 3, partial carbon copy, bound with two staples. Sept. 15, 1941. Granville signed this contract to appear in 3 RKO Radio movies within one year, commencing on Sept. 22, 1941 and a weekly salary of $1,166.66 for each. This contract gave the studio options for as many as 18 more movies during the next 6 years, with her weekly salary rising to a maximum for the final three pictures. Granville appeared in 5 RKO Radio movies between 1942 and 1948: Hitler's Children (1942), Syncopation (1942), Seven Miles from Alcatraz (1943), Youth Runs Wild (1944) and The Truth About Murder (1946). Granville (1923-1988, born in Chicago, Illinois) made her film debut in 1932 at the age of nine in Westward Passage and four years later was nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for her role in These Three (1936). Known for playing the title role in four Nancy Drew films (1938-1939) and starring opposite Mickey Rooney in two Andy Hardy outings (1944, 1946), Granville also appeared in such films as Little Women (1933), Anne of Green Gables (1934), Maid of Salem (1937), The People vs. Dr. Kildare (1941), Now, Voyager (1942), Hitler's Children (1943) and The Lone Ranger (1956). She was also a familiar face on early TV anthologies (beginning in 1951), and Granville guest starred on several TV series, including Lassie (1965), which she produced and directed. Granville, who was married to producer Jack Wrather from 1947 until his death in 1984, was also known for her involvement with a number of charities. ROSINA GRANVILLE (1892-1984) was a stage actress and Bonita's mother. Lightly toned and creased. Carbon copy marks. Lightly discolored at left and right edges. Front cover has two file holes at top edge. Otherwise in fine condition.
