BORN TO DANCE: JAMES STEWART and BUDDY EBSEN
B/w movie still from Born to Dance of James Stewart and Buddy Ebsen on the deck of a sub looking somewhat askance at a crewmember reading a magazine in a hatch. Signed by Stewart and secretarially by Ebsen.
Photograph signed "James Stewart" and secretarially "Buddy Ebsen", both in blue ink. B/w, 9¾x7¾ overall, 9x7¼ image, one surface. Born to Dance was one both Stewart and Ebsen's earliest movies. Stewart starred, while Ebsen's name appeared in the supporting cast. With movie credit label on rear. STEWART (1908-1997, born in Indiana, Pennsylvania) starred in more recognized masterpieces of the American cinema than any other actor. In 1940, he won the Best Actor Academy Award for The Philadelphia Story, and he was nominated for Oscars in the same category for Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939), It's A Wonderful Life (1946), Harvey (1950) and Anatomy of a Murder (1959). Stewart, who was awarded an Honorary Academy Award in 1984, also appeared in You Can't Take It With You (1938), Destry Rides Again (1939), The Greatest Show on Earth (1952), Rear Window (1954), The Spirit of St. Louis (1957), Vertigo (1958) and a long list of other features. Originally a dancer, EBSEN (1908-2003, born Christian Rudolph Ebsen, Jr. in Belleville, Illinois) did just that in many films of the 1930s. Later a sidekick to Western heroes Rex Allen and Fess Parker, he also played serious character roles, as in Night People (1955). His greatest success came on TV, however, where he starred in two popular series, The Beverly Hillbillies (1962-1971) and Barnaby Jones (1973-1980). Lightly toned, creased and bowed. Lightly folded near lower edge. Light scratches and cracks in image (not visible head-on). Otherwise in fine condition.
