FAREWELL TO BOSTON GARDEN: IRVINE BAILEY, JOHN BUCYK, GORDON KLUZAK, WOODY DUMART, JOHN MCKENZIE, RICK MIDDLETON, MIKE MILLBURY,TERRY O'REILLY, BOBBY ORR, BERNIE PARENT, BRAD PARK
Hockey stick from a 1995 farewell to Boston Garden, signed by 11 former Boston Bruins, including Hall of Famers Bernie Parent, Bobby Orr, Brad Park, Woody Dumart and John Bucyk, as well as Toronto Maple Leaf Hall of Famer Irvine "Ace" Bailey
Hockey stick signed "Gord Kluzak", "[illegible]/Ace/Bailey", "Mike Milbury", "Brad/Park", "John Bucyk", "Woody Dumart", "Fred Stanfield", John McKenzie", "Bobby Orr", "Rich Middleton", "TO'Reilly" and "Bernie Parent", plus eight unidentified signatures. 64¼x9¼x1½. Christian USA 1000 Pro stick with black tape and head wrapped in plastic yarn. Stick is printed with: "Farewell to the Garden, April 1, 1995". Head is printed with: "Celebrity/All-Star/Hockey". This hockey stick is a real piece of hockey history. It's from a farewell ceremony for one of the most famous venues in sports, Boston Garden. Everyone who signed this stick (except for Bailey) was a Boston Bruins and represent the team from every decade from the 1930s to the 1990s. Five of the signers - Parent, Orr, Park, Bucyk and Bailey - are also members of the Hockey Hall of Fame. Boston Garden was built in 1928 by boxing promoter Tex Rickard as the Boston version of Madison Square Garden in New York City (it was called Boston Madison Square Garden, but had its name shortened). The stadium could seat over 14,000 hockey fans and almost 15,000 basketball fans. The Garden's design meant that the fans were closer to the ice than almost any other venue, giving the hometown Bruins, Braves and New England Whalers (for hockey) and Celtics (for basketball) a real hometown advantage. It outlasted Madison Square Garden by almost 30 years, closing on Sept. 28, 1995 and being demolished in November of 1997, right before the opening of its successor the FleetCenter, now TD Banknorth Garden, on Sept. 30, 1995. Tape is lightly torn. Otherwise in fine condition.
