THE 1969 BOSTON RED SOX Nineteen members of the squad that finished third in the A.L. East signed this baseball Baseball signed: "Carl Yastrzemski", "Bobby Doerr", "Tony Conigliaro", "Reggie Smith", "Rico Petrocelli", "Bill Lee", "Sparky Lyle", "Dalton Jones", "Russ Gibson", "Dick Schofield", "Joe Lahoud", "Don Lock", "Eddie Popowski", "Ron Kline", "Jerry Moses", "Lee Stange", "Darrell Johnson", "Vicente Romo" and "Jose Santiago" . Nineteen signatures in all. Official Joseph E. Cronin American League Ball. The Red Sox finished 87-75 in 1969, respectable in most seasons but 22 games behind the torrid Baltimore Orioles. However, at least 10 of these signers were part of the Fenway Miracle of 1967, when the team improved from ninth place the year before to win a memorable, 4-team pennant race, then take the powerful St. Louis Cardinals to the seventh game of the World Series. At least four (Yastrzemski, Petrocelli, Lee and by then manager Darrell Johnson) were still present when the Sox lost another 7-game World Series, what some still consider the greatest Series of them all, to the Cincinnati Reds in 1975. Two signers, Yaz and Petrocelli, were in both Series classics. Two signers (Yastrzemski and Doerr - the latter a coach in 1969) are in the Hall of Fame. Other noteworthy names include the fondly remembered Tony Conigliaro, whose tragic beaning cut short what promised to be a great career, and Sparky Lyle, later traded to the Yankees in one of the worst trades in baseball history. Slightly soiled. Otherwise, fine condition.
