BOSTON RED SOX (1986).
Stars Clemens and Evans sign a commemoration of a great season with a tragic ending.
Program signed: "Roger Clemens", "Dwight Evans", 40p, 8¼x10¾. Official Boston Red Sox Souvenir Book for the 1986 (AL) Championship season. Clemens has signed on a full-page, color photo showing him recording his 20th Strikeout in a game at Fenway Park (April 29). Evans has signed on his photo (color, 3x4) on a page summarizing games 3 & 4 of the 1986 World Series. ROGER CLEMENS, a certain Hall of Fame inductee after his retirement, won the first three of his seven Cy Young Awards in a Red Sox uniform. His 1986 regular season was one of the greatest ever for the Bosox: 24-4 with a 2.48 ERA and 238 strikeouts. The only mystery remaining about his Hall of Fame future is what uniform his bust there will wear. DWIGHT EVANS, one of the most beloved players in Red Sox history, played 19 of his 20 big league seasons with the Sox, starring defensively in the '75 Series and offensively in the '86 version. The 1986 season is remembered today as yet another tragic installment in "the Curse of the Bambino," thanks to Bill Buckner's glaring error in Game Six which opened the door to the New York Mets' comeback from a 3-1 game deficit. Less remembered is the equally dramatic Boston comeback from a 3-1 deficit for an American League Championship Series victory over the California Angels. This program contains complete player stats for the 1986 season, as well as game-by-game summaries of the ALCS and World Series and other "magic moments." This program itself will have nostalgia value for a longtime Boston fan, with many color photos, and even the ads for now vanished Boston institutions like Jordan Marsh department stores. Center page has come loose from the staple binding. Cover lightly creased. Otherwise, fine condition.
