BOY FOY and THE FIVE SHERRY BROTHERS
Signature with "best wishes" from the juggler and unicyclist, with signatures from all five of The Five Sherry Brothers on the verso. Extremely rare!
Autograph sentiment signed: "Best Wishes/Boy Foy", "Dan Sherry", "Jim Sherry", "Sam Sherry", "Peter Sherry", "Harry Sherry", in unknown hand: "5 Sherry/Brothers/Feb. 1940", in blue ink, 6½x5¼. This signer merits further research: "Young Madrigal". BOY FOY (b. 1919) was a UK based juggler and unicyclist, the son of juggler Jack Melville. Often billed as "the youngest juggler", Boy Foy performed in the top theatres and music halls across England and the UK, including several performances at the London Palladium. His star had faded by the 1970's, and he retired from full time performing to focus on teaching. THE FIVE SHERRY BROTHERS, consisting of Dan, Jim, Sam, Harry, and Peter, were a dance and song troupe formed in the late 1920's. Performing traditional folk dance in clogs, the brothers were a spectacle to see even in the growing popularity of 'talkies', using the novelty of old dance routines to draw in viewers. However, their popularity faded fast as the boys grew older and the routine became dry. By the beginning of World War II, the group had mostly disbanded. Right edge notched and frayed. Heavily soiled across front and verso. Unsigned photograph on verso. Corners and edges lightly worn. Lightly toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
