To "Dear Jim", in full: "Can you lunch here at 1:30 on Washington's Birthday? I'm asking Mark and Bronson and Runnels [?]". Brander Matthews(1852-1929) taught literature at Columbia University and wrote many fiction and nonfiction books of his own.
