American saxophonist and composer Branford Marsalis (b.1960) has
toured and/or recorded with jazz greats like Art Blakey, Clark Terry, Herbie
Hancock and Miles Davis, and even with pop/rock star Sting. From 1982 to
1985 he played with Wynton Marsalis, his younger brother. He appeared in
two films (School Daze, Throw Mama from the Train) and spent three
years as Jay Leno's music director (1992-1995). His Buckshot LeFonque
project experimented with fusions of jazz and hip/hop. Also a bandleader, he
is the lead of the world famous Branford Marsalis Quartet. He
has been awarded dozens of accolades, including an honorary doctor of Music
Degree from the University of North Carolina. In 2011, his family was honored
the NEA Jazz Masters Award for their lifetime commitment to the art. Ink
