BRENT SUTTER
Legendary NHL player and coach offers fan "best wishes" in black ink
Autograph sentiment signed: "Best Wishes/ Brent" in black ink. 3x5. Attached is a photo of the NHL player. Brent Sutter (b. 1962) is a retired NHL center and member of the Sutter family hockey dynasty who played 18 seasons with the New York Islanders (1980-1992) and the Chicago Blackhawks (1991-1998). Sutter was the first pick, 17th overall, of the Islanders in the 1980 NHL Entry Draft, and was fortunate to enter the Stanley Cup finals in his first three seasons, winning in his first two. His success with the team dwindled but in 1987 he was named captain of the Islanders, being the last of the Islander dynasty to remain on the team. In 1991 he was traded to the Blackhawks where he spent his last seven years, where he experienced his fourth and final Stanley Cup finals; he also spent part of his time in Chicago being coached by his brother, Darryl. He also helped Canada win the Canada Cup three times in 1984, 1987, and 1991. Sutter turned to coaching in his retirement, first buying and then coaching the WHL's Red Deer Rebels, and later leading the Canadian junior ice hockey teams to consecutive gold medals in 2005 and 2006; in 2008, he was signed as head coach of the New Jersey Devils which in only two seasons he lead to a franchise best of 51 wins and an Atlantic Division title, after which he abruptly resigned. Two weeks later he suddenly name head coach of the Calgary Flames alongside his brother who was the team's general manager, sparking anger in the Devil's fans, players, and officials. Corners and edges slightly creased. Light toning in margins. Light stains on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
