BRET HARTE. Third Person ALS: "Bret Harte", 1p, 4½x7. Arford House, Headley, Hants, England, Sunday, no date. In full: "Mr. Bret Harte regrets that his absence from London will prevent his accepting Mr. Herschels (sic) kind invitation for the 2d July." Harte's tales of California mining camps, such as Outcasts of Poker Flat, won him adulation in the U.S. and England. His books include The Luck of Roaring Camp and Other Sketches (1870), Mrs. Skagg's Husband (1873) and Tales of the Argonauts (1875). Lightly shaded at blank margins, paper remnants at left blank margin. Overall, fine condition.
