GEORGE BRETT and BRET SABERHAGEN
Envelope commemorating the Royals' victory in Game 7 of the 1985 World Series, signed by both stars
Commemorative envelope signed: "George Brett", "Brett Saberhagen", 6½x3½. Special Cover with color cachet marking the Game 7 victory of the Kansas City Royals over the St Louis Cardinals in the 1985 World Series, postmarked Kansas City, Missouri, October 27, 1985 (the place and date of the game), 22-cent US flag stamp affixed. Cachet shows Brett and Saberhagen beginning their celebration. GEORGE BRETT played his entire career for the Royals, leading them to six AL Championships and two World Series in their heyday of the late '70s and early '80s. He is the all-time team leader in every offensive category except for stolen bases. A perennial All-Star (1976-1988), Brett was the AL's Most Valuable Player (1980) and won a batting title in three separate decades (1976, 1980 and 1990). Brett was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1999. His brother Ken pitched in the major leagues for 13 years. BRET SABERHAGEN pitched for the Kansas City Royals (1984-1991), New York Mets (1992-1995), Colorado Rockies (1995) and Boston Red Sox (1997-2001). In 1985, Saberhagen became the youngest pitcher ever to capture the Cy Young Award with a 20-6 record. He ran away with 1985 World Series MVP honors by limiting the St. Louis Cardinals to twelve base runners and one run over 18 innings. In 1989, he won his second Cy Young Award, leading the American League in wins (23-6) and ERA (2.16). Lightly toned at right edge and on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
