BRIAN CONNELL - TYPED LETTER SIGNED 11/06/1961 - HFSID 80004
Price: $200.00
BRIAN CONNELL
British journalist and broadcaster, host of ITV's This Week
responds to an invitation in 1961. Extremely rare!
Typed letter signed: "Brian Connell" in black ink, 1p, 8x10.
London, England, 6 November 1961. On his letterhead at
Associated-Rediffusion (in partnership with ITV), to "Dear Mr. Grant",
Donald Grant, Esq. Whitton, Middlesex, in full: "Thank you so much
for your letter of November 2. It is very kind of you to invite me, but I do try
to get out of Town for weekends so I am afraid that I am not free to join you on
November 18, much as I should like to. Yours sincerely". Brian Connell
(1916-1999) succeeded Leslie Mitchell and Ludovic Kennedy as host of
ITV's This Week in 1960, presenting until 1963. An aggressive
conservative and impartial journalist, Connell continuously bumped heads with
the liberal producers of ITV, and eventually left the network. An interview
with Prince Charles of Wales in 1969 resurged his prominence in the dawn of
the new decade, and in 1970 he was given his own show, The Brian Connell
Interview. The series aired for ten years before his retirement
(1970-1980). Normal mailing folds. Slightly creased and toned. Soiled at
corners. Otherwise, fine condition.
