BRIAN CRANE
Crane drew and signed a small drawing of Opal Pickles, from his syndicated comic strip Pickles, on this 1968 first day issue honoring Oliver Wendell Holmes
Original art signed "Brian Crane". 6½x3½. Drawn on a first day cover honoring Oliver Wendell Holmes, postmarked Washington, DC, March 8, 1968. Four 15¢ red-and-pink Oliver Wendell Holmes stamps affixed. Crane, born in Twin Falls, Idaho in 1949, debuted "Pickles", a delightful strip about Earl and Opal Pickles, who have been married for over 50 years, in 1990. The strip, which is now syndicated in over 400 newspapers worldwide, was nominated as Best Comic Strip of the Year by the National Cartoonists Society in 1995 and 2001, winning the award in 2001. In 2004, the third collection of "Pickles" cartoons was published. "Pickles" is the first syndicated strip drawn by Crane, who was previously an art director at a Reno, Nevada advertising agency. Lightly toned and creased, otherwise in fine condition.
