BRIAN DONLEVY. Inscribed signature: "To/Elsie/Best wishes/Brian
Donlevy" in pencil, 6x4½ album leaf. Circa 1938. In 1938, four
films in which Donlevy appeared were released: Battle of Broadway,
We're Going to Be Rich, Sharp Shooters and In Old
Chicago. Irish-born actor BRIAN DONLEVY (1889-1972) appeared on
Broadway and in supporting silent film roles in the 1920s. He received an
Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor in Beau Geste (1939) and a
New York Film Critics Best Actor nomination for Wake Island
(1942), the former as a villain, the latter as a hero. Donlevy, who starred in
his last film, Pit Stop, in 1969, also produced and starred in a radio/TV
series, Dangerous Assignment, in the early 1950s. Elsie was ELSIE
MYRUS, the wife of mental telepathist Myrus, who was billed as "The Man with
the X-Ray Eyes". Elsie would collect the autographs of celebrities attending her
husband's shows, and this autograph is from her personal collection. Slightly
creased. Binding holes at blank left edge. Fine condition.
