BRIAN DONLEVY. Signature: "Brian Donlevy" on verso of 5x3 ruled card. Magazine photograph, b/w, 1x1, affixed at lower right margin. Typed at upper left margin: "BRIAN DONLEVY/(1899-1972)" [Note: Donlevy's birthdates are given in some sources as 1889 and 1901]. Typed caption beneath signature: "Irish-American leading man, later character actor, in Hollywood from the 1920's after stage career. Usually in tough-talking roles with soft hearts." Ink notes (unknown hand) on verso, in part: "May 16, 1953/Malin Studios". On May 21, 1953, just five days after he signed this autograph, Donlevy appeared in an episode of TV's Lux Video Theatre. That year, he was also on The Motorola Television Hour and starred in The Woman They Almost Lynched (some sources also say he was in Ride the Man Down, which other sources list as being released in 1952). Irish-born actor Brian Donlevy (1889-1972) appeared on Broadway and in supporting silent film roles in the 1920s. He received an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor in Beau Geste (1939) and a New York Film Critics Best Actor nomination for Wake Island (1942), the former as a villain, the latter as a hero. Donlevy, who starred in his last film, Pit Stop, in 1969, also produced and starred in a radio/TV series, Dangerous Assignment, in the early 1950s. Stray ink mark at the upper portion of the "D". Light show through of photograph on verso, which is lightly soiled. Overall, fine condition.
