BRIAN O'LEARY
Signature from the former NASA astronaut on a sheet bearing
photocopied stamps honoring the United States in space
Photocopy in Ink: "Brian O'Leary", in blue ink, 6½x3. Sheet
with photocopied stamps honoring Theodore von Karman and the United States in
space. American scientist Brian O'Leary (1940-2011) was selected by
NASA in 1967, being chosen as a member of the sixth group of astronauts
selected that year. He was one of eleven scientists selected for the
(eventually canceled) Apollo Applications Program, and was the first
astronaut to be selected for a potential manned Mars Mission. The mission,
which was projected for the 1980's, never came to fruition. O'Leary left NASA
only a year later, and went on to a teaching career at several prestigious
universities. In recent years, O'Leary has drifted away from orthodox
science, and has studied more controversial ideas, like the relation between
"consciousness and science". Lightly toned, spotty in areas. Irregularly cut.
Slight surface creases. Otherwise, fine condition.
