BRIAN PETTINGILL
The talented long distance runner pens a note on this sheet of paper containing a photocopied photo of the runner competing as Millrose High School in New York
Autograph Note Signed: "Thanks/ for your/ interest!/ Mr. Wood/ Brian/ Pettingill" 5½x8½ photocopy affixed to a 6x9 sheet of paper. Newspaper article, 5¾x3½, affixed to a 6¾x4¾ sheet (at widest points) attached to verso. Brian Pettingill was a long distance runner. He set the high school mile record for the state of Maine in 1981, finishing in an impressive 4 minutes, 10 seconds. In addition, at the 1981 NYC Millrose Games, Pettinghill won the high school indoor mile championship, running an impressive 4:14. He went on to compete for Stanford at the college level. As a senior, he ran the steeplechase in 8:48. In 1984, he just barely missed the Olympic Trials in the 1500m; only a tenth of a second short of qualifying, he finished the race in 3:42.3 at Stanford Stadium (the equivalent of a 3:59 mile). Pettingill's personal bests were 14:19 in the 5000m and 1:50 in the 800m. Following his graduation from Stanford, he ran for Reebok and Asics, including a stint in Europe. In 1987, he won a 1500m race in England, posting a time of 3:45, and also came in third in an 800m race held in Paris, running a time of 1:50. Corners and edges gently worn. Both photocopy and sheet to which it is affixed are lightly toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
