BRIEN TAYLOR
Shown pitching in Yankee uniform, making a high leg kick
Photograph signed: "Brien Taylor". The Yankees used the first pick of the 1991 amateur
draft to select Brien Taylor, and signed him to a big contract.Baseball America magazine
gave him its highest prospect rating, and Scott Boras became his agent. Taylor had a
promising season for Albany in the Yankee farm system, but he refused the club's advice to
spend the winter in the instructional league working on fundamentals. Instead, he went home
to North Carolina, got into a fight protecting his brother, and suffered an arm injury from
which he never recovered. Taylor spent his last four seasons in the South Atlantic League,
trying to return to form. He is only the second #1 draft selection never to play in the
Majors. At last report he was living with his parents, working as a bricklayer earning $909 a
month, and trying to meet child support payments for his five daughters. Color 8x10. Fine
condition.
