Charles H. Crane signs a manuscript document about Otto Weber's
services in the Medical Department of the U.S. Army
Manuscript Document Signed: "C.H. Crane" as Asst. Surgeon
General, U.S. Army, 1p, 7½x9¾. No place, no date. Headed: "Military
History of Otto Weber's/services in the Medical Department of/the U.S. Army". In
full: "Appointed Hospital Steward U.S. Army September 29th 1864. On duty
at 5th Corps Hospital; Army of the Potomac from date of appointment to June _
1865. At Medical Purveying Depot Washington, D.C. from June 27th 1865 to March
20th 1866. Discharged March 20th 1866 per Special Orders No. 120 dated War
Department Adjutant General's Office March 16, 1866; his services being no
longer required. Official." Dr. Crane was one of nine men present at the
autopsy of President Lincoln performed at the White House. Charles H. Crane
served as Surgeon General of the United States from July 3, 1882 until his death
on October 10, 1883. File holes at upper margin. Fine
condition.
