Charles H. Crane signs a manuscript document about August Hoesten's
services in the Medical Department of the U.S. Army
Manuscript Document Signed: "C.H. Crane" as Asst. Surgeon
General, U.S. Army, 1p, 7¾x9¾. No place, no date. Headed: "Military
History of August Hoesten's/services in the Medical Department/of the U.S.
Army". In full: "Appointed Hospital Steward June 9, 1866. On duty at
Surgeon General's Office from date of appointment to June 9, 1869. Discharged
June 9, 1869 by reason of expiration of term of service. Official." Dr.
Crane was one of nine men present at the autopsy of President Lincoln performed
at the White House. Charles H. Crane served as Surgeon General of the United
States from July 3, 1882 until his death on October 10, 1883. File holes at
upper margin. Fine condition.
