Manuscript Document Signed: "C.H. Crane" as Asst. Surgeon General, U.S. Army, 1p, 7¾x9½. No place, no date. Headed: "Military History of Joseph Ross'/services in the Medical Department of the U.S./Army". In full: "Appointed Hospital Steward U.S. Army October 11th 1864. On duty at Medical Purveying Depot, Washington D.C. from date of appointment to October 11th 1864. Discharged October 11th 1864 by reason of expiration of term of service. Official." Dr. Crane was one of nine men present at the autopsy of President Lincoln performed at the White House. Charles H. Crane served as Surgeon General of the United States from July 3, 1882 until his death on October 10, 1883. File holes at upper margin. Fine condition.
