Manuscript Document Signed: "C.H. Crane" as Asst. Surgeon
General, U.S. Army, 1p, 7¾x9¾. No place, no date. Headed: "Military
History of William H. Hyers'/services in the Medical Department of the U./S.
Army". In full: "Appointed Hospital Steward U.S. Army December 5th 1862
at Ascension Hospital Washington D.C. from date of appointment to February 22nd
1863.At Medical Purveying Depot Washington, D.C. from February 23rd 1863 to
December 5th 1865. Discharged by reason of expiration of term of service
December 5th 1865. Official." Dr. Crane was one of nine men present at
the autopsy of President Lincoln performed at the White House. Charles H. Crane
served as Surgeon General of the United States from July 3, 1882 until his death
on October 10, 1883. File holes at upper margin. Fine
condition.
