Brigadier General CLAYTON SINNOTT ADAMS (1890-1965), an army reservist during World War I, was called to active duty in 1940 and attached to the Adjutant General's office. From 1942 to 1943, Adams headed the US Army Postal Service. In this post, he created V-Mail, the space saving system of transmitting letters to US servicemen overseas on compact microfilm. Retiring in 1946, Adams moved to Fredericksburg, Virginia, and with his wife MADELAINE ADAMS raised thoroughbred Dobermans. Mrs. Adams had shown her love of animals during World War II by writing instructions to British townspeople on how to manage their pets during an air raid. CHARLES FANTIN was chief chef of the Drake Hotel in Milwaukee before assuming the same duties at the Statler Hotel in Buffalo, New York. J. FRANK BIRDSALL, JR. would become President of Treadway Inns and of the American Hotel and Motel Association. Irregularly cut edges. Ink marks throughout. Left edge frayed from binding. Lightly toned.
