Michigan", 9½x5½. Brigadier General CLAYTON SINNOTT ADAMS
(1890-1965), an army reservist during World War I, was called to active duty
in 1940 and attached to the Adjutant General's office. From 1942 to 1943, Adams
headed the US Army Postal Service. In this post, he created V-Mail, the space
saving system of transmitting letters to US servicemen overseas on compact
microfilm. Retiring in 1946, Adams moved to Fredericksburg, Virginia, and with
his wife MADELAINE ADAMS raised thoroughbred Dobermans. Mrs. Adams had
shown her love of animals during World War II by writing instructions to British
townspeople on how to manage their pets during an air raid. CHARLES FANTIN
was chief chef of the Drake Hotel in Milwaukee before assuming the same
duties at the Statler Hotel in Buffalo, New York. J. FRANK BIRDSALL, JR.
would become President of Treadway Inns and of the American Hotel and Motel
Association. Irregularly cut edges. Ink marks throughout. Left edge frayed from
binding. Lightly toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
