Envelope commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the Solo Transatlantic Flight by a member of Jimmy Doolittle's raiders, who had a long career in the Air Force.
Commemorative Envelope signed: "E.W. "Brick" Holstrom", 6½x3¾. Everett W. Holstrom (1916-2000) was born in Cottage Grove, Oregon. After graduating from the advanced flying schools at Randolph and Kelly Air Force bases with an aeronautical rating of pilot, he fought in World War II. While piloting a B-25 as a member of Jimmy Doolittle's raiders, he was forced to bail out in China after dropping his payload on Tokyo. Holstrom took over command of the 11th Bomb Squadron until the end of 1943. After WWII, he served as an operations staff officer at Strategic Air Command Headquarters, director of operations of the 91st Bomb Wing (1950-1953), director of operations at Second Air Force headquarters (1953-1955), commander of the 301st Bomb Wing at Barksdale Air Force Base, Louisiana (1956-1957), chief of the Operation Plans Division Strategic Air Command Headquarters (1957-1959), commander of Second Air Force's 4130th Strategic Wing and commander of the 43d Bomb Wing, SAC's first supersonic bombardment wing. He was promoted to brigadier general in 1964, and his awards include the Silver Star, Legion of Merit and two Distinguished Flying Crosses. Fine condition.
