In full: "I have the honor to transmit herewith Return of Deceased Soldiers of the Battalion of Engineers for the month of September and October 1871." Henry Larcom Abbot (1831-1927) was a military engineer who graduated from West Point in 1854 and served in the United States Army until 1895. During the 1850s, Lt. Henry L. Abbot and Capt. A.A. Humphreys conducted a thorough scientific survey of Mississippi River flow from the river's junction with the Ohio southward to its emptying into the Gulf of Mexico. Lightly creased.
