From the Apollo 9 collection, a stowage strap flown on the Apollo 9 mission, and a letter of authenticity signed by the Apollo 9 commander himself.
Collection: 1.) Apollo 9 Flown Interim Utility Stowage Strap Originally from the Personal Collection of Mission Commander James A. McDivitt. 10.5" x 0.75" brown cloth strap. Printed part number SEB33100015-301. Written serial number 1010. Fabric on strap slightly fraying. Fine condition 2.) Letter of authenticity signed: "Jim McDivitt", in green felt tip, 8½x11. In full: "I certify that this utility stowage strap flew on Apollo 9 on her flight from March 3-13, 1969. It is from my personal collection.", Fine condition. James McDivitt (born 1929), a Korean War combat pilot, was selected as an astronaut by NASA in September 1962. He served as Command Pilot for Gemini 4 (June 3-7, 1965) and Commander of Apollo 9 (a ten-day earth orbital flight launched on March 3, 1969). Gemini 4 witnessed the first EVA (spacewalk) by Edward White, while Apollo 9 featured the first separation and docking of the lunar module (LEM) by Russell Schweickart. Named Manger of the Apollo Spacecraft Program in August 1969, he was Program Manager for the Apollo 12 to Apollo 16 missions. McDivitt retired from the Air Force as a Brigadier General in June 1972, when he also left NASA for the private sector.
