JAMES H. DOOLITTLE and OTHERS
James H. Doolittle and others signs a program for Mariner's Night Honoring The Men of The Sea, Command Voyage #11, the Bicentennial Celebration of the "S.S. Masonic Fellowship".
Program signed: "J. H. Doolittle". Also signed by: "George Gobel", "Tom Frandsen", "Robert C. Kraft/MSG, USA", "Carl J. Jackel" and "William 'Bill' Gehris" (twice), 4p, 8½x11. Program for Mariner's Night Honoring The Men of The Sea, Command Voyage #11, the Bicentennial Celebration of the "S.S. Masonic Fellowship", April 29, 1976. The name "Ben Goodrich" written on the cover was probably the owner of the program. JIMMY DOOLITTLE was Distinguished Guest of Honor, and actor, musician and comedian GEORGE GOBEL was awarded the Masonic "Appreciation" Special Award. In 1922, Jimmy Doolittle made the first transcontinental flight in less than 24 hours. In the 1920s and 1930s, he set various speed and flight records. In World War II, Doolittle and 79 other fighter pilots ("Doolittle's Raiders") bombed Tokyo on April 18, 1942, the first air attack on the Japanese capital. Also hit were targets in Yokohama and other cities, scoring a huge victory for United States morale at a time when Japan's position in the Pacific seemed impregnable. Doolittle was promoted to Brigadier General the next day and was later awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for the raid. Lightly creased and soiled. Folds, horizontal folds touch some signatures. Overall, fine condition.
