The Medal of Honor recipient signs his name in black ink
Autograph note signed:"To Mr & Mrs Sy Sussman/My best
wishes/Joe Foss". 5x2¾ card. Joseph J. Foss (1925-2003) was
awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor by President Franklin D. Roosevelt
on May 18, 1943 for his 26 aerial victories over Guadalcanal (1942-1943).
The wife and mother of the Marine Corps Captain were present at the ceremony.
Foss later served as the Governor of South Dakota (1955-1959), a
Brigadier General in the Air Force Reserve, the first President of the
American Football League (1959), playing a key role in the creation of the
Super Bowl, and President of the National Rifle Association (1988). When
Foss was buried at Arlington National Cemetery on January 21, 2003, the funeral
was attended by Vice President Dick Cheney and retired Colonel Oliver North, who
gave the eulogy. Writing has bled slightly. Small stain near right edge.
