The WWII Medal of Honor recipient signs his name on this typed letter regarding the sale of his show to cable
Typed Letter Signed: "Joe", 1p, 8½x11. Scottsdale, Arizona, 1981 April 28. To Charles Russhon, New York. In full: "Thanks for your note regarding selling my shows to the Cable TV people. You can bet I'm interested. If you and Bill can put out some feelers and let me know the results, I'll be glad to talk with you and/or them. Thanks for thinking of me." Handwritten postscript: "always great to hear from you!" Joseph J. Foss (1925-2003) was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor by President Franklin D. Roosevelt on May 18, 1943 for his 26 aerial victories over Guadalcanal (1942-1943). The wife and mother of the Marine Corps Captain were present at the ceremony. Foss later served as the Governor of South Dakota (1955-1959), a Brigadier General in the Air Force Reserve, the first President of the American Football League (1959), playing a key role in the creation of the Super Bowl, and President of the National Rifle Association (1988). When Foss was buried at Arlington National Cemetery on January 21, 2003, the funeral was attended by Vice President Dick Cheney and retired Colonel Oliver North, who gave the eulogy. Lightly creased.
