Autograph Document not signed, 1p, 5½x8. "Richmond Dec 20 1890" at bottom in unidentified hand. Evidently, Anderson was asked about 14 Confederate Generals. In full: "Genl R.L. Page Norfolk Va/A.L. Long Charlottesville Va./R.L. Walker dead/W.C. Wickham dead/S.M. Barton Fredericksburg Va/Dabney Maury Richmond Va/McCorland I think is dead/W H Jackson [ditto marks for I think is dead]/McComb I don't know/W Mackall dead/Heth in Government Service in Pacific Coast/McCray I don't know/W.R. Miles I don't know." Walker died in 1890, Jackson died in 1903, McComb died in 1918, Mackall died in 1891, Heth served in the Office of Indian Affairs, and McRae died in 1899. Anderson, owner of the Tregedar Iron Works in Richmond, served as Brigadier General in the Confederate Army. He was wounded in the Battle of the Seven Days and resigned his commission in 1862 to devote all his time to the Iron Works. He was the principal supplier of heavy ordnance to the Confederacy during the entire war. Mounting remnants on verso. Fine condition
