The French astronaut and pilot who served on multiple space missions signs his name to a fan
Autograph note signed: "To Roger Nees/Best wishes/Michel" in black ink. 5x3. Michel Ange-Charles Tognini (b. 1949) is a French test pilot, Brigadier General in the French Air Force, and a former CNES and ESA astronaut who served from January 1, 2005 to November 1, 2011 as Head of the European Astronaut Centre of the European Space Agency. Tognini served in the French Air Force from 1974-1981. In 1982, he began Empire Test Pilots' School in the UK, eventually becoming a chief test pilot. When France opened a recruitment program to expand its astronaut corps in 1985, Tognini was one of seven candidates selected by CNES. During 1989-1990 he supported the Hermes program in Toulouse, France. Tognini made his first spaceflight on July 27, 1992, aboard Soyuz TM-15. Later he flew aboard Space Shuttle Columbia on STS-93 (July 22-27, 1999). During the five-day mission his primary task was to assist in the deployment of the Chandra X-Ray Observatory, and to conduct a spacewalk if needed. He now works for Human Space Exploration in France. Fine condition.
