Photograph inscribed and signed: "To Richard Calow/Best wishes for
an/Air Force supporter/Robin Olds/B Gen USAF".Color, 8x10. In August
1944, Robin Olds (1922-2007) became an ace after his first two combat
missions, claiming two FW-190s on the 14th and three Me-109s on the 25th. He
ended WWII with 13 victories. In September 1966, Olds became commanding
officer of the 8th Tactical Fighter Wing at Ubon, Thailand. In 1967, he
shot down four MiGs. General Olds is the only ace with air-to-air
victories in nonconsecutive wars. Promoted to Brigadier General,
General Olds became Commander of Cadets at the U.S. Air Force Academy in
1968. Olds, who retired in 1973, was married to Hollywood actress Ella
Raines from 1947 until her death in 1988. Corners and edges lightly worn.
