Free frank signed: "W.E. Dunkelberg", 9½x4½. Addressed to Mr.
Ashley T. Cole, Counselor at Law. New York City, New York. Wilbur E.
Dunkelberg (1898-1987) was a soldier during World War I, World War II and
the Korean War, receiving a Legion of Merit award as a Colonel for his actions
during World War II, and receiving a Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster in lieu of his
second Legion of Merit while still serving as a colonel in WWII. After
serving as an assistant Division commander for the 95th Division (TNG),
Dunkelberg commanded the 24th Infantry Division during the Korean War.
His valor during the Korean War earned him another Legion of Merit
award, this time a second Bronze Oak leaf Cluster and under his rank as a
Brigadier General. Heavy surface creases. Edges and corners heavily worn and
creased. Toned. Ink stamps. Ink notes (unknown hand). Lightly soiled. Otherwise,
fine condition.
