April 12. To G. J. Mathews, New York, N.Y. In full: "In compliance
with Your request of March 15, I herewith furnish you the autograph of,
Respectfully". Young (1801-1877) succeeded Joseph Smith (1844, officially
confirmed in 1847) as head of the Mormon church (Church of Jesus Christ of
the Latter Day Saints) and led the mass migration to Salt Lake Valley. He
was also the first governor of Utah Territory in 1851. Slightly creased.
Thin 1/8-inch hole in upper right. Pinhead-size spots (not at signature).
