BROOKE SHIELDS
Black and white publicity photograph shown in a still from the film Brenda Starr
Photograph signed: "love/Brooke/Shields". B/w, 8x9¾. Through her teens, Brooke Shields (born in 1965) was among the world's top fashion models, appearing on over 300 magazine covers internationally between 1980-1985 (she is also well known for her Calvin Klein jeans ad). Shields became a bona fide star when French director Louis Malle cast her as a 12-year-old New Orleans prostitute who becomes the romantic obsession of a much older painter in Pretty Baby (1978). Her best-known film is the so-bad-it's-good The Blue Lagoon (1980), in which Shields and a teenage hunk find themselves shipwrecked for years on a desert island. Shields, who put her career on hold to attend Princeton, from which she graduated with honors, was later given her own situation comedy, NBC's Suddenly Susan (1996-2000). She has been married to tennis star Andre Agassi (1997-1999; annulled so she could remarry in the Roman Catholic church) and to writer/producer Chris Henchy (since 2001). The couple's first daughter, Rowan was born in 2003, and Shields candidly discussed her emotional upheaval after the birth in her book, Down Came the Rain: My Journey Through Postpartum Depression. Slightly creased at blank corners, light black mark at lower right corner. Minor surface creases (not evident head on). Ink note (unknown hand) on verso (no show through). Fine condition.
