Autograph Note Signed: "To James B. Arnoff/with best wishes/Bruce Catton", in blue ink on a
5x3 index card. In 1954, Bruce Catton (1899-1978) won the Pulitzer Prize for historical
writing and the National Book Award for A Stillness At Appomattox. Editor of "American
Heritage Magazine" from 1954-1959 and Senior Editor from 1959 until his death in 1978,
Catton, who was awarded the Presidential Freedom Medal in 1955, wrote a number of
books on the Civil War, including Mr. Lincoln's Army (1951), Glory Road (1952), Two
Roads to Sumter (co-authored in 1968 with his son, William Bruce Catton) and Gettysburg:
The Final Fury (1976). Lightly toned at corners. Otherwise, fine condition.
