BRUCE CRAMPTON
Color bust photo of golfer Bruce Crampton in a white shirt and cap,
signed with his "Best wishes"
Photograph signed "Best wishes/Bruce Crampton". Pencil
notations on verso in unknown hand. Color, 5x7 overall, 4½x6½ image, one
surface. Known for his intense work ethic (and possibly apocryphal stories
about his bad attitude) on the course, Australian-born American golfer
Crampton, born in 1935, turned pro in 1953 and had 42 professional wins,
including 14 wins on the PGA Tour and 20 on the Champions Tour. He also won
the Vardon trophy, awarded to the PGA Tour player with the lowest stroke
average, in 1973 and 1975. Crampton has never won a major championship in
the U. S., but has come in second 4 times - once on the Masters, once on the U.
S. Open and twice on the PGA Championship; interestingly, all four second-place
finishes have been to Jack Nicklaus. Lightly creased corners. Otherwise in fine
condition.
