In full: “Dear Mr. Thompson: In response to your various circular messages which I herewith acknowledge with many thanks, I am very sorry to state that, because of my responsible position in American life scientific and social, I have to refrain from all utterances of a political nature. With the cordial good wishes of the season, believe me, yours very sincerely”. Bruno Oetteking (1871-1960) was a German-born scientist and anthropologist. He studied pre-medical science, physical anthropology and evolutionary biology and served as the keeper of anthropological collections at various museums and universities. Arriving in New York in 1913, he joined Professor Boas in the Department of Anthropology at the American Museum of Natural History, where he worked for seven years. Later he joined the staff of the Department of Anthropology at Columbia University and became curator of the Museum of the American Indian, Heye Foundation. He lectured at Columbia until 1938 and continued his scientific research up until his death. Lightly toned. Corners rounded and creased. Normal mailing folds. Otherwise, fine condition.
