BUCK JONES. Photograph signed: "To My Friend/Buck Jones".
B/w, 10x8. Movie still from the 1938 film Law of the Texan, ©Columbia
Pictures Corp. Buck Jones (1889-1942) was one of the most popular Western stars
of the 1920s. When Westerns took a back seat to the early talkie era, he
continued appearing in successful horse operas and dramatic films until 1936.
At the peak of his popularity in the 1930s, Jones was receiving more fan mail
than Clark Gable. In 1940, he co-starred in the Rough Rider series.
He was guest of honor at a party given by his producer/manager at the Cocoanut
Grove nightclub in Boston when a fire broke out; Jones perished in the fire,
along with 500 others. Lightly creased. Slightly soiled at blank margins.
Overall, fine condition.
