Rogers in the 25th Century (1979-1981) was a science fiction adventure
television series based on a character of the same name which had been featured
in comic strips, novellas etc. by Philip Francis Nowlan. Actor/producer GIL
GERARD (b. 1943) is perhaps best known for playing the title role in the film
and television series, Buck Rogers in the 25th Century, although he
initially turned down the part as the futurist space hero based on the comic
book character. The 1979 film was a huge commercial success, grossing over $11
million in its opening weekend, although the series was cancelled after two
seasons (1979-1981). Gerard, who began his career in stage plays in New York,
was an extra in the 1970 film Love Story and appeared on the daytime
soap, The Doctors, and in over 400 commercials before heading to
Hollywood, where he formed his own production company, Prudhomme Productions.
The company released its first film, Hooch, produced by and starring
Gerard, in 1976. Gerard then appeared on a number of televisions series,
including Little House on the Prairie, Hawaii-Five-O and
Baretta, as well as in a number of made-for-television movies (his
best known are Help Wanted: Male, For Love or Money and Hear No
Evil). He also hosted the "actuality" series, Code 3, which
followed the exploits of paramedics, firefighters and other rescue organizations
around the world, for two seasons. Gerard, who was married to actress Connie
Selleca from 1979-1987, continues to act and produce. In the late
1960s, ERIN GRAY (b. 1950) made her television debut as a dancer
in a variety show starring Ricky Nelson called Malibu U. For the next
several years, Erin's face became one of the most recognized in the country.
Among her many commercial credits she served as the original spokesperson for
Loreal's "I'm Worth It" campaign as well as being the Maxi Girl for Max Factor,
one of the first Sports Illustrated models, the Bloomingdale's spokesperson for
over 10 years, and perhaps the most famous commercial campaign of the 70s: The
Virginia Slims ads. Her first starring role in a series came opposite Gil
Gerard in Buck Rogers In The 25th Century. In 1982, Erin was cast as Kate
Summers in a pilot series called Silver Spoons. Slightly toned. Fine
condition.
