BUD BLAKE
The cartoonist signs his name with a drawing of Tiger, his best known
character
Inscribed original art signed: "For Michael/From 'Tiger'/& Bud
Blake" in black ink. 5x3. Drawing of the character Tiger from his comic
strip in bottom left corner. Julian "Bud" Blake (1918-2005) left a
successful advertising career in 1954 because he wanted to draw comic strips.
For the next ten years, he authored the cartoon Ever Happen to You?
Approached by his King Features Syndicate to create a strip rivaling Peanuts, he
launched Tiger in 1965. He drew this popular portrayal of boyhood pals
and the spotted dog Stripe for nearly 40 years, and 100 newspapers still
carry it in reprints. The National Cartoonists Society named Tiger the Best
Humor Strip in 1970, 1978 and 2000. Lightly toned. Original mailing envelope
included. Otherwise, fine condition.
