Inscribed photograph signed "To:/Will W./Stanhope/Bud Thackery/A.S.C." B/w, 7¾x9¾ overall, 7¼x9¼ image, one surface. American cinematographer Thackery (1903-1990), born Ellis Thackery, shared an Oscar nomination for Best Special Effects in Women at War (1940) and was nominated for an Emmy Award for the 1964 TV movie Once Upon a Savage Night. He got his start doing special effects and color separation in movies and serials of the mid-1930s before stepping behind the camera in 1936 to become a cinematographer on serials like Darkest Africa (1936), Undersea Kingdom (1936) and Dick Tracy (1937). In all, he had cinematography and photography credits on almost 170 movies and TV shows between 1936 and 1977. Thackery's name frequently popped up on TV shows beginning in 1954, including Stories of the Century (1954-1955), Commando Cody: Sky Marshall of the Universe (1955), The Adventures of Dr. Fu Manchu (1956), M Squad (1957-1958), Wagon Train (1957-1964), Thriller (1960-1961), Tales of Wells Fargo (1961-1962), McHale's Navy (1962-1966), The Alfred Hitchcock Hour (1964), Kraft Suspense Theatre (1964-1965), Laredo (1966), Ironside (1968-1975) and Emergency! (1972-1975).Lightly bowed. Pen skipped while writing signature, which is legible. Otherwise in fine condition.
