BUDDY EBSEN and JOHN ELDREDGE
The early Hollywood actors signs their names in pencil for child actor Billy Seay
Signature: "Bubby Ebsen" and "John Eldredge" in pencil, 1 page, 6x4½. Originally a dancer, BUDDY EBSEN (1908-2003) did just that in many films of the 1930s. Ebsen was the original choice to play The Tin Man in The Wizard of Oz (1939), but proved allergic to the silver makeup applied to his skin. Later a sidekick to Western heroes Rex Allen and Fess Parker (as George Russel to Parker's Davy Crockett), he also played serious character roles, as in Night People (1955). His greatest success came on TV, however, where he starred in two popular series, The Beverly Hillbillies (as Jed Clampett, 1962-1971) and Barnaby Jones (as the detective of the title, 1973-1980). A prolific actor of over 206 films, JOHN ELDREDGE (1904-1961) began in the movie making business in 1934, playing Barry in The Man with Two Faces. His career best include Meet Corliss Archer (1954), Dangerous (1935) High Sierra (1941) and A Crime Does Not Pay Subject: They're Always Caught (1938). In his late career he appeared on television shows such as Angel (1961), Mister Ed, and Wanted: Dead or Alive (1959-1960). From the album collection of child actor BILLY SEAY (1922-2012), who appeared in many films throughout the decade including The Greater Glory (1926), My Man (1928), and The Marriage Playground (1929). Seay would leave Hollywood in the early 1930s to become a noted artist and illustrator. Toned. Creased throughout. Binding holes in right margin. Pencil notes in bottom margin in unknown hand. Otherwise, fine condition.
