67", in black felt tip, B/w10x8. Born Burle Icle Ivanhoe, Burl Ives
(1909-1995) was both an Academy and Golden Globe winner for Best Actor
(The Big Country, 1958) and a popular balladeer ("Itty Bitty Tear", "My
Funny Way of Laughing", "Have a Holly Jolly Christmas"). His feature film
credits include Smoky (1946, his debut), East of Eden (1955),
Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (1958, as Big Daddy), Desire Under the Elms
(1959, as Ephraim Cabot), Let No Man Write My Epitaph (1960),
Summer Magic (1963), The Brass Bottle and Ensign Pulver
(both 1964), and Ives also starred in two popular television miniseries,
Captains and the Kings (1976) and Roots (1977), as well as a
number of made-for-television movies, including the animated holiday
favorite, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (1964). He later appeared in
the TV series OK Crackerby (1965) and The Bold Ones: The Lawyers
(1969). One of his popular songs, "The Wayfaring Stranger", became the title of
his radio program (1940) and his first book (1948). Lightly toned. Fine
