Affixed to the ball are 33-cent US stamp and postmark, Baltimore, Maryland, September 20, 1998, the date on which Cal Ripken, Jr. ended his streak of 2,632 games played by removing himself from the lineup. He has numbered 2,632 balls, one for each of his consecutive games. Game #533 was played on July 23, 1985, against the Minnesota Twins. In 1995, Ripken had broken Lou Gehrig's record of playing in 2,130 consecutive games, long considered unbeatable. The American League's Rookie of the Year in 1983, he retired after the 2001 season with 431 home runs, 1983 and 1991 MVP Awards and appearances in 19 straight All-Star Games (1983-2001). A career Baltimore Oriole, Cal Ripken, Jr. will enter the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2007. Fine condition.
