CALIFORNIA GOLD RUSH MOVIE CAST
Peggy Stewart and director R.G. Springsteen sign on a colorized 14x11 lobby card for the 1946 film
Inscribed lobby card signed: "To Clint -/Thank you for comin'/through my life/Peggy Stewart/9/28/81", "R.G. Springsteen", Colorized 14x11. PEGGY STEWART (1923-2019) who appeared in many films, mostly Westerns, from the late 1930s into the 1960s, was one of Republic Picture's leading ladies in the 1940s. Tired of being cast in serials, she left Republic, but continued making occasional films. Stewart later appeared in several made-for-TV movies and was a guest star on a number of TV series, and she made stage appearances in the Los Angeles area. Stewart, who was married to actors Don "Red" Barry (1940-1944) and Buck Young (1953 until his death in 2000), has been a popular figure at Western film and nostalgia gatherings. Director R.G. SPRINGSTEEN (1904-1989) was attached to a string of B films through the 1940's and 1950's, mostly comprised of Westerns and adventure films. He made his lead directing debut with Marshal of Laredo (1945), but is best known for his films Bullet for a Badman (1964), Johnny Reno (1966), and the Oscar nominated Singing Guns. After directing over 50 movies in a 12 year span, Springsteen eventually made the transition to television, directing episodes of Trackdown (1958), Rawhide (1960), and Tales of Well Fargo (1961). His last directing gig was the film Tiger by the Tail (1970), after which he retired from film making altogether. Corners worn and creased. Toned, esp. heavy on right margins. Lightly soiled. Tape on verso protecting staple holes on front center. Fingerprint stain on right margin. Otherwise, fine condition.
